Network File Manager for Android

AnExplorer connects your Android device to the full range of network storage protocols — your NAS, home server, Windows share, or router USB drive becomes as easy to access as your SD card.

Supported Protocols

ProtocolPortSecurityCommon Use
FTP21NoneHome NAS, router USB
FTPS990SSL/TLSHosting providers
SFTP22SSHVPS, Raspberry Pi, Linux servers
SMB v2/v3445OptionalWindows shares, Samba, QNAP, Synology
WebDAV80/443Optional TLSNextcloud, ownCloud, web servers

AnExplorer avoids SMBv1 by default for network security.

Connect to a Windows Share (SMB)

  1. Tap + in the sidebar → SMB / Windows Share.
  2. Enter the host (IP or hostname), share name, username and password.
  3. DOMAIN\username format is supported for Active Directory environments.
  4. The share appears in the sidebar instantly — browse as a local folder.

Auto-discovery: AnExplorer scans your local network and lists visible SMB hosts. Tap a host and enter credentials.

Connect via FTP / SFTP

Add a new FTP or SFTP remote → enter host, port, username, password, and optional starting path. SFTP also supports private key authentication — load your key file from local storage.

WebDAV (Nextcloud / ownCloud)

Enter the server URL, username and password to access self-hosted cloud storage with full read/write: browse, upload, download, create folders, rename, delete.

Features

  • Saved bookmarks — one-tap reconnection to saved remotes
  • Background transfers — copy a 10 GB folder from NAS to phone and close the app; transfer continues in the background with progress in the notification shade
  • Cross-protocol copy — copy from an SMB NAS directly to an FTP server without touching phone storage
  • Stream media — play video or audio files directly off a network share using the built-in Video Player or Music Player
  • Cast from NAS — browse a NAS in AnExplorer → Cast to TV from the NAS directly

Common Use Cases

  • Browse Synology / QNAP / TrueNAS NAS from phone
  • Access Raspberry Pi file server over SFTP
  • Pull configs from a router via FTP
  • Sync with Nextcloud via WebDAV
  • Download recordings from an IP camera NAS

For cloud providers (Dropbox, OneDrive, Box), use Cloud Storage. For Windows SMB shares specifically, see SMB File Manager. For FTP-only connections, see FTP Client.
