File Manager for Volkswagen ID Series (ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, ID.7, ID.Buzz)
Volkswagen's ID. series electric vehicles use MIB3 with Google Built-in — Android Automotive OS integrated directly into the car's modular infotainment system. From 2023–2024 onwards, all major ID. models received OTA updates to bring the Google Built-in capability, giving you access to the Play Store, Google Maps, and native Android apps without a phone.
AnExplorer works on MIB3-equipped VW ID. models as a native file manager for USB storage, cloud access, and wireless phone-to-car file transfer.

Install AnExplorer on Volkswagen ID.
Via Play Store:
- From the VW home screen, open Google Play Store
- Search for AnExplorer
- Tap Install — downloads over built-in VW Connect LTE or home WiFi
- AnExplorer appears in the app launcher
Via USB sideload:
- Download the APK at /download on your phone
- Copy to a FAT32 formatted USB drive
- Plug into the USB-C media port (not the charging-only port)
- Open AnExplorer → USB Storage → tap the APK → install
Browse USB Music and Media
VW ID. models include a dedicated USB-C media input in the centre console. AnExplorer reads these directly:
- Plug a USB drive into the media port (use a USB-A to USB-C adapter if needed)
- Open AnExplorer → USB Storage
- Browse audio folders by artist, album, or genre
- Copy tracks to internal car storage for offline playback — no need to leave the drive plugged in
Supported formats: MP3, FLAC, AAC, OGG, WAV, and most container formats.
Wireless Transfer from Phone
Transfer music playlists, podcasts, or navigation POI files from your Android phone:
- Open AnExplorer on your phone → WiFi Share
- Select files to send
- On the ID. infotainment: AnExplorer → Network → WiFi Receive
- Accept the transfer — files arrive over the VW Connect hotspot or home WiFi
This avoids repeated USB connections — useful for regularly updated podcast libraries.
ID.7 and ID.Buzz — Extended Display Use
The ID.7 (15" display) and ID.Buzz (12.9" display) have more screen space for file management:
- ID.7: Large display is ideal for browsing NAS folders or cloud file trees. Split-screen with media app and AnExplorer is comfortable at this size.
- ID.Buzz: Multi-row seating variants benefit from pre-loading children's media to internal storage — passengers use the infotainment without needing AnExplorer open.
Cloud Storage on VW ID.
VW Connect provides built-in LTE data. AnExplorer connects to:
- Google Drive — integrated with the Google account used on the vehicle
- Dropbox and OneDrive — music and document libraries
- Nextcloud / WebDAV — self-hosted NAS over home WiFi
