File Manager for Ford Android Automotive
Ford is transitioning its infotainment platform to Android Automotive OS with Google built-in. Vehicles using Ford's SYNC system based on Android Automotive support native Android apps from the Google Play Store — including AnExplorer.
Note: The original SYNC 3 and SYNC 4 systems on most current Ford models use a Linux/QNX-based platform — that platform is not Android Automotive and does not support AnExplorer. Only Ford vehicles with Google Built-in specifically listed in the specifications support AnExplorer.
Ford Models with Android Automotive (Google Built-in)
Ford and its Lincoln brand are rolling out Android Automotive OS across their lineup:
| Vehicle | Model Year | Android Automotive | Platform |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ford Explorer | 2025+ | ✅ Google Built-in | BlueCruise-ready |
| Ford Expedition | 2025+ | ✅ Google Built-in | Full-size SUV |
| Lincoln Nautilus | 2024+ | ✅ Google Built-in | Luxury variant |
| Lincoln Aviator | 2025+ | ✅ Google Built-in | Mid-size luxury |
| Lincoln Navigator | 2025+ | ✅ Google Built-in | Premium family |
Ford announced a broad partnership with Google in 2021 to move to Android Automotive across its full EV and ICE lineup. More models are rolling out through 2025 and beyond. Check your vehicle's specification sheet for "Google Built-in" to confirm compatibility.

What AnExplorer Adds to Ford Infotainment
Ford's built-in file experience is limited to basic USB browsing and music playback. AnExplorer extends this significantly:
| Feature | Ford Built-in | AnExplorer |
|---|---|---|
| USB drive file browser | Basic | ✅ Full |
| Dashcam clip viewer | ❌ | ✅ |
| Cloud access (Dropbox/OneDrive) | ❌ | ✅ |
| WiFi file transfer from phone | ❌ | ✅ |
| Archive manager (ZIP/RAR) | ❌ | ✅ |
| APK sideloader | ❌ | ✅ |
| SMB / NAS access | ❌ | ✅ |
Manage Dashcam and BlackBox Footage
Many Ford vehicles — particularly the Explorer — support USB dashcam recording via an accessory or built-in front camera. Footage writes to a USB drive in the centre console:
- Open AnExplorer on the Ford infotainment
- Tap USB Storage to browse the dashcam drive
- Navigate to event folders (dated/timestamped folders)
- Review clips on the infotainment screen
- Copy important events to Dropbox or OneDrive for safekeeping
- Delete old footage to free USB storage
Transfer Files from Phone to Ford
Move music, audiobooks, or podcasts from your Android phone to Ford's infotainment wirelessly:
- Open AnExplorer on your Android phone and tap WiFi Share
- Select the files you want to transfer
- On the Ford infotainment, open AnExplorer → Network → WiFi Receive
- Accept the transfer — completes over the vehicle WiFi hotspot or home WiFi

Sideload Apps on Ford Android Automotive
Some apps not yet available in the Automotive Play Store can be sideloaded:
- Download the APK file to your phone
- Transfer via AnExplorer WiFi Share to the car
- Tap the APK in AnExplorer's local storage view to install
Check Ford's developer settings to confirm APK installation is enabled. Some vehicles restrict this for security reasons.
