MEGA on Android with AnExplorer
AnExplorer does not include MEGA as a native cloud storage connection. MEGA uses a proprietary encrypted protocol (MEGAcrypt) that does not map to standard WebDAV or FTP — so AnExplorer cannot connect to a MEGA account the same way it connects to pCloud or Dropbox.
This page explains MEGA's features and what your options are when combining MEGA with AnExplorer.
About MEGA
MEGA was founded in 2013 in New Zealand as a successor to Megaupload. It is now incorporated in Luxembourg. MEGA distinguishes itself from other cloud storage with:
- 20 GB free storage — among the most generous free tiers of any cloud storage in 2026
- End-to-end encryption by default — files are encrypted client-side before upload; MEGA cannot see file contents
- No advertising — funded through paid plans
- Open-source clients — MEGA SDK and client apps are open source
MEGA offers 200 GB, 2 TB, and business plans. The free 20 GB is permanent (no time limit), though MEGA has historically reduced storage for inactive accounts.
How to Use MEGA Files with AnExplorer
Option 1: MEGA App + Share to AnExplorer
- Download and use the official MEGA app from the Play Store
- In the MEGA app, download files to your device
- Use Android's share sheet or Files integration to hand off to AnExplorer
- From AnExplorer, move files to NAS, FTP server, Dropbox, or any supported storage
Option 2: MEGAcmd WebDAV Server (Advanced, Desktop/NAS)
MEGAcmd is MEGA's official command-line tool that can expose your MEGA account as a WebDAV server on your local network. If you run MEGAcmd on a PC or NAS:
# Install MEGAcmd on your desktop or NAS
# Then start a WebDAV server:
mega-cmd
# Inside MEGAcmd shell:
mega-login [email protected] yourpassword
mega-webdav --port=4443 /
Then in AnExplorer, add a WebDAV connection to your PC's local IP on port 4443. This exposes your MEGA storage over the local network.
This approach requires running MEGAcmd on a persistent machine (Linux server or NAS works well).
Option 3: Download via Browser
MEGA's web interface is accessible at mega.nz. Files can be downloaded to your phone's Downloads folder via the browser, where AnExplorer can pick them up from local storage.
Comparing MEGA to Clouds Supported Natively by AnExplorer
| MEGA | pCloud | Dropbox | OneDrive | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AnExplorer native support | ❌ | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ |
| Free storage | 20 GB | 10 GB | 2 GB | 5 GB |
| End-to-end encryption | ✅ (default) | Optional (Crypto add-on) | ❌ | ❌ |

If you prefer an in-app integrated experience, pCloud is the closest equivalent — Swiss privacy focus, optional client-side Crypto encryption, and 10 GB free — with native AnExplorer support.
