Pixel Fold — Google's Foldable Meets Real File Management
Google Pixel Fold (2023) and Pixel 9 Pro Fold (2024) bring Google's clean software experience to the foldable form factor. The 7.6-inch inner display provides tablet-class real estate, while the outer display works as a standard phone. Stock Android means fast updates, no bloatware, and the smoothest Android experience available.
But the file management story is the same as every Pixel device: Google Files. Basic browsing, basic cleanup, no NAS, no multi-cloud, no archives, no wireless PC transfer. On a $1,800 device designed for productivity, this is a significant gap.
AnExplorer fills it with split-pane file management on the inner display, full network storage access, 7 cloud services, and universal wireless transfer — all on the cleanest Android platform available.

Two Display Modes
Inner display (7.6" unfolded) — Tablet-class file management
When you unfold Pixel Fold, AnExplorer switches to split-pane layout automatically:
- Left panel: folder tree with all storage locations (internal, NAS, cloud services)
- Right panel: file contents with thumbnails in list or grid view
- Drag and drop: move files between panels
- Multi-select: long-press for batch operations
The inner display is where serious file work happens — organizing photos, managing NAS content, copying between cloud services, handling archives.
Outer display (5.8" folded) — Quick operations
On the outer screen, AnExplorer uses a compact phone layout:
- Start Device Connect without unfolding
- Check a download or recent file
- Quick share via cloud
- Browse a specific folder
Perfect for one-handed operations when you don't need the full tablet experience.
Setup — The Simplest of Any Foldable
Pixel Fold runs stock Android — the cleanest, least modified version available. Setup is effortless:
- Install: Play Store → "AnExplorer" → Install
- Default: Settings → Apps → Default apps → File Manager → AnExplorer
- Permissions: Grant "All files access" on first launch
- Done. No battery optimization needed. No manufacturer quirks.
Stock Android doesn't aggressively kill background apps. Device Connect works reliably without any special configuration — a significant advantage over Samsung, Xiaomi, or Oppo foldables.
Network Storage Access
Google Files has zero network capability. AnExplorer provides full access on Pixel Fold's large inner display:
SMB — NAS and Windows shares:
- AnExplorer → Network → SMB → tap +
- Enter NAS IP (e.g.,
192.168.1.100), username, password - Browse shares in split-pane — folder tree on left, contents on right
The inner display makes NAS browsing comfortable — you can see deep folder hierarchies and file details simultaneously.
FTP/SFTP — remote servers:
- Network → FTP or SFTP → tap +
- Enter hostname, port, credentials
- Full file management on remote systems
WebDAV — Nextcloud/ownCloud:
- Network → WebDAV → tap +
- Enter your self-hosted cloud URL
- Access private cloud directly
All connections bookmark to the sidebar for one-tap access.
Cloud Storage — 7 Services
Google Files shows Drive files in search but can't manage other services. AnExplorer provides full management:
- Google Drive — full browse, upload, download, move, delete (beyond what Files offers)
- Dropbox — personal and team folders
- OneDrive — Microsoft personal and business
- MEGA — 20 GB free, end-to-end encrypted
- Box — enterprise cloud storage
- pCloud — European privacy-focused
- Yandex Disk — CIS regions
The split-pane layout on the inner display makes cloud management productive — browse hierarchies on one side, manage files on the other.
Wireless Transfer
Quick Share only works between Android/Chrome devices. Device Connect works with any browser:
- AnExplorer → ☰ → Device Connect → Start
- On any computer: open browser → type the displayed address
- Browse, download, upload files
Pixel 9 Pro Fold with WiFi 7 delivers the fastest wireless transfer speeds of any Android phone — 100+ MB/s on compatible routers. Even the original Pixel Fold with WiFi 6E reaches 60-80 MB/s.
Tabletop Mode (Flex Mode)
When Pixel Fold is partially folded and propped up on a surface:
- AnExplorer adjusts to the visible area
- Useful for hands-free file browsing
- Device Connect can run while the phone is propped up — browse files from your PC while the Fold sits on your desk
Multi-Window
Pixel Fold supports Android's split-screen multitasking:
- Run AnExplorer alongside Chrome, Gmail, or any other app
- Drag files from AnExplorer to other apps (where supported)
- Use AnExplorer to find and open files while working in another app
Archive Management
The inner display makes archive operations comfortable:
- Create: Select files/folders → compress to ZIP or 7z
- Extract: Open RAR, 7z, TAR, ISO archives
- Browse: Preview archive contents without extracting
- Comic reader: CBR/CBZ files display beautifully on the 7.6-inch screen

- Pixel Fold (2023) — Tensor G2, WiFi 6E, 7.6" inner / 5.8" outer
