File Manager for Realme — NAS, Cloud & Archive Access on Realme UI

Realme's File Manager — Functional But Limited

Realme phones run Realme UI, which is built on top of ColorOS (Oppo's Android skin). The built-in File Manager is essentially the same app as Oppo's — it handles local file browsing, category views (photos, videos, documents), and basic storage cleanup.

For the price-conscious audience that Realme targets — students, young professionals, and budget-conscious tech users — the built-in file manager covers daily basics. But the moment you need network access, cloud management, or wireless PC transfer, you hit the same walls as on Oppo phones.

What Realme's file manager can't do:

  • Connect to NAS devices or Windows shared folders (no SMB/FTP/WebDAV)
  • Manage Dropbox, OneDrive, MEGA, or Box as file systems
  • Create ZIP or 7z archives (can only extract ZIP)
  • Transfer files wirelessly to a PC, Mac, or Linux machine
  • Install split APK bundles (APKS, APKM, XAPK)
  • Access root file system on unlocked devices

AnExplorer adds all of these capabilities with a single install from the Play Store.

Battery Optimization — The Critical Step

Realme UI inherits ColorOS's aggressive battery management. Without proper configuration, the OS kills background apps within seconds — including AnExplorer's Device Connect server.

Required settings:

  1. Settings → Battery → App battery management → find AnExplorer → "Allow background activity"
  2. Lock in recent apps: open recent apps → swipe down on AnExplorer's card → lock icon appears
  3. Auto-launch: Settings → Apps → App management → AnExplorer → Auto-launch → Enable
  4. Power saving exclusion: Settings → Battery → Power saving mode → App exclusion → add AnExplorer

On Realme UI 5+ (Android 14):

  • Settings → Apps → App management → AnExplorer → Battery usage → Unrestricted

Without these steps, Device Connect stops working the moment you switch to another app. This is an OS-level behaviour inherited from ColorOS — not specific to AnExplorer.

Wireless Transfer from Realme to PC

Realme Link (formerly Realme Share) transfers files between phones but can't send to a PC, Mac, or Linux machine. AnExplorer's Device Connect fills this gap:

  1. Open AnExplorer → ☰ → Device Connect → Start
  2. Note the address (e.g., http://192.168.1.42:8080)
  3. On your computer: open any browser → type the address → Enter
  4. Browse phone files, download what you need, upload from PC

No Realme account. No pairing. No software on the PC. Works on any device with a web browser.

Budget Realme phones (C series, Narzo) typically have WiFi 5, delivering 15–30 MB/s transfer speeds. GT series phones with WiFi 6 reach 40–60 MB/s.

Network and Cloud Storage

Realme's file manager has zero network capability. AnExplorer provides full access:

SMB — NAS and Windows shares:

  1. AnExplorer → Network → SMB → tap +
  2. Enter NAS IP (e.g., 192.168.1.100), username, password
  3. Browse shares, stream media, manage files

FTP/SFTP — remote servers:

  1. Network → FTP or SFTP → tap +
  2. Enter hostname, port, credentials
  3. Full file management on remote systems

Cloud storage (7 services):

  • Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, MEGA, Box, pCloud, Yandex Disk
  • Full browse, upload, download, move, delete
  • Copy between cloud services or between cloud and local/SD storage

Realme-Specific Setup

Setting as default on Realme UI

  1. Settings → Apps → Default apps → File Manager → AnExplorer
  2. Now all file-open intents route to AnExplorer

SD card management (C series, Narzo)

Budget Realme phones (C55, C53, Narzo 70, Narzo 60) include microSD card slots:

  1. Insert microSD card
  2. Open AnExplorer — SD card appears in sidebar
  3. Grant SAF permission when prompted (one-time)
  4. Full read/write: move photos, videos, downloads to free internal storage

This is essential on 64 GB models where internal storage fills quickly.

Installing APKs

Realme UI requires explicit permission:

  1. Settings → Privacy → Install unknown apps → AnExplorer → Allow
  2. Navigate to APK → tap to install
  3. Realme UI may scan the APK — wait, then tap Install

AnExplorer handles split APK bundles (APKS, APKM, XAPK) that Realme's installer can't process.

Compatible Realme Models

AnExplorer works on every Realme phone running Android 7.0+:

  • GT series (flagship): GT 7 Pro, GT 6, GT 5 Pro, GT Neo 6, GT Neo 5
  • Number series (mid-range): Realme 14 Pro+, 14 Pro, 13 Pro+, 12 Pro+
  • Narzo (value): Narzo 70 Pro, Narzo 70, Narzo 60 Pro
  • C series (budget): C75, C67, C55, C53, C35
  • P series: P1 Pro, P1

All models running Realme UI 2.0+ are fully compatible.

Common Tasks for Realme Users

Freeing storage on budget phones

Realme C and Narzo series often ship with 64–128 GB. AnExplorer's Memory Cleaner helps:

  1. Scans for duplicate photos, leftover APKs, empty folders
  2. Identifies large WhatsApp videos and forgotten downloads
  3. Typically recovers 2–5 GB on phones used for 6+ months

For phones with SD card slots, move your DCIM folder to microSD to free 5–15 GB instantly.

Managing WhatsApp media

WhatsApp is the primary communication app for most Realme users. Media accumulates in Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/Media/:

  1. AnExplorer → navigate to WhatsApp Media folder
  2. Browse by category: Images, Video, Audio, Documents
  3. Delete old videos (usually the largest category) to reclaim storage
  4. Use AnExplorer's WhatsApp Manager (☰ → WhatsApp) for a categorized view

Backing up before switching phones

Before upgrading to a new Realme:

  1. Connect to cloud storage (Google Drive, MEGA) or NAS via SMB
  2. Copy important folders: DCIM, Downloads, Documents, WhatsApp
  3. On the new phone, install AnExplorer and connect to the same storage
  4. Copy files back — faster and more complete than Realme Clone

Accessing Android/data folder

On Realme UI 5+ (Android 12+), the built-in file manager blocks access to Android/data/ and Android/obb/. AnExplorer uses Storage Access Framework to grant access:

  1. Navigate to Internal Storage → Android → data
  2. System dialog appears: "Allow AnExplorer to access this folder?"
  3. Tap "Use this folder" → Allow
  4. Full read/write access to app data, game OBB files, and WhatsApp backups

This is essential for managing game data (BGMI, Free Fire, Genshin Impact) and WhatsApp database backups.
