Meta Glasses Transfer Failed — 7 Proven Fixes for POV Capture Export

Smart glasses—including Meta Ray-Ban Smart Glasses, Meta Orion prototypes, and AR wearables from XREAL, Rokid, and RayNeo—allow you to capture spontaneous hands-free photos, POV 1080p/3K video recordings, and voice memos.

However, moving these captures off the glasses onto your smartphone or computer frequently runs into frustrating transfer errors:

  • "Import failed: Could not connect to glasses Wi-Fi"
  • The transfer begins but freezes at 0% or drops halfway through a large 3-minute video
  • "Glasses storage full, but import won't start"
  • The companion app loses Bluetooth connection during transfer
  • Downloaded video files appear corrupted or missing in the phone gallery

These issues typically stem from Wi-Fi Direct switching errors, low battery throttling, Bluetooth handshake drops, or phone battery management. Follow these 7 proven fixes to resolve smart glasses transfer failures.

Fix 1 — Ensure Glasses Have at Least 20% Battery Charge

Smart glasses use low-power Bluetooth for continuous connectivity but spin up a high-power 5GHz Wi-Fi chip when transferring large photo and video files. If the glasses battery drops below 15% to 20%, the internal power management unit blocks the Wi-Fi radio to prevent an unexpected shutdown:

How to fix:

  1. Place your smart glasses inside the charging case.
  2. Ensure the case LED indicates charging status (green or solid orange).
  3. Charge the glasses for at least 15 minutes before initiating another transfer.
  4. Keep the glasses close to your phone while transferring.

Fix 2 — Manually Approve the Wi-Fi Direct Network Prompt

When transferring high-resolution video clips, your smartphone must disconnect from home Wi-Fi and connect to a direct temporary Wi-Fi network generated by the glasses:

On iOS (iPhone):

  • When prompted with "Meta View wants to join Wi-Fi network 'Meta_Glasses_XXXX'", tap Join.
  • If you accidentally tap "Cancel", the transfer will immediately fail. Re-open the app to re-trigger the prompt.

On Android:

  • When prompted "Connect to device's Wi-Fi network?", tap Connect or Allow.
  • Ensure that Android's Intelligent Wi-Fi (or "Switch to Mobile Data") feature is temporarily disabled, as it may disconnect from the glasses' Wi-Fi because it lacks an active internet connection.

Fix 3 — Toggle Bluetooth and Re-Pair Glasses

The initial transfer handshake occurs over Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) before switching to Wi-Fi. A corrupted Bluetooth cache can cause the handshake to stall:

  1. On your smartphone, open SettingsBluetooth.
  2. Turn Bluetooth OFF, wait 5 seconds, and turn it back ON.
  3. On your Meta glasses:
    • Slide the power switch to OFF (red shows), wait 5 seconds, and slide back to ON (green shows).
  4. Open the companion app and attempt the import again.

Fix 4 — Export Media from Phone to PC via AnExplorer Connect

Once files are imported into your phone, moving them to your Windows PC or Mac without compression is simple with AnExplorer Connect:

Smart Glasses ──► Phone Storage ──► AnExplorer Connect (Wi-Fi) ──► PC / Mac Browser
  1. Open AnExplorer on your smartphone.
  2. Tap the Connect card on the Home screen and select Start.
  3. On your computer's browser, navigate to https://web.anexplorer.io and enter your phone's IP address.
  4. In the web interface, open DCIM/ or Pictures/MetaView/.
  5. Select your POV recordings and click Download to package all video files into an uncompressed ZIP archive on your PC.

Fix 5 — Disable VPN and Private DNS During Transfer

Active VPN tunnels (NordVPN, ExpressVPN, WireGuard) and Private DNS filters can intercept the local Wi-Fi routing required for smart glasses transfers:

  1. Open your phone's SettingsVPN and disconnect active profiles.
  2. Turn off Private DNS or set it to Automatic.
  3. Complete your media transfer, then re-enable your security tools.

Fix 6 — Clear Companion App Cache & Free Phone Buffer Storage

If your smartphone is running low on internal flash memory (less than 2GB free), the companion app cannot extract and decrypt video files from the glasses:

  1. Use AnExplorer to check available internal storage on your phone.
  2. Clean up temporary files, old downloads, and duplicate videos using AnExplorer's storage cleanup tools.
  3. On Android: Go to SettingsApps → select companion app → Storage → tap Clear Cache.
  4. Re-launch the app and retry the import.

Fix 7 — Soft Reset the Smart Glasses

If the glasses firmware enters an unresponsive state:

  1. Slide the power switch on the left arm of the glasses to OFF.
  2. Press and hold the capture button on top of the right frame.
  3. While holding the capture button, slide the power switch back to ON.
  4. Continue holding the capture button until the internal LED blinks white, then release.
  5. This soft resets the internal controller without deleting your stored photos and videos.

Fix 8 — Direct USB OTG Export for AR Glasses Compute Packs

For smart glasses that utilize dedicated Android compute packs (such as XREAL Beam Pro or Rokid Station):

  1. Connect a USB-C flash drive directly to the secondary USB-C port of the compute pack.
  2. Open AnExplorer directly on the compute pack.
  3. Select your recordings folder, tap Copy, navigate to the USB Storage card, and tap Paste.
  4. This bypasses wireless transfer entirely, moving multi-gigabyte video clips in seconds.

Fix 9 — Auto-Sync Imported Glasses Captures to Cloud Drives

To prevent phone storage from filling up and ensure captures are never lost:

  1. In AnExplorer on your smartphone, tap the Cloud card on the Home screen.
  2. Link your Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, or Dropbox account.
  3. Set up a regular transfer routine to move imported POV videos from your phone's internal storage directly to your cloud drive over home Wi-Fi.
