To access your Android phone's files from any computer or device browser, open AnExplorer and start Connect — it creates a local HTTP server on your phone. Open the displayed URL (like https://web.anexplorer.io) in any browser on your PC, Mac, TV, or tablet on the same WiFi network. You get a full file browser interface where you can download files from your phone, upload files to it, and navigate your entire storage without installing software or using cables.
What is Connect?
Connect is AnExplorer's built-in HTTP file server. When activated, your phone serves its filesystem over your local WiFi network using standard HTTP — the same protocol web pages use. Any device with a web browser becomes a file management client for your phone.
This means:
- No cables needed — completely wireless
- No software installation on the receiving device — just a browser
- Cross-platform — works from Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, smart TVs, iPads, other phones
- Two-way transfers — download FROM your phone and upload TO your phone
- No account required — no cloud service, no login, no app to install
Starting Connect
- Open AnExplorer
- Open Connect: Open
https://web.anexplorer.ioon the receiving device. - Browse: Navigate your Android's folders in Connect.
- Download: Download files to the receiving device.
- Upload: Use the upload button to send files FROM the receiving device TO Android
Keep AnExplorer open and the screen awake while using Connect. If AnExplorer goes to the background or the screen locks, the server may pause (depending on your battery settings).
Connecting from Your Computer
Windows / macOS / Linux / ChromeOS
- Ensure your computer is connected to the same WiFi network as your phone
- Open Connect at
https://web.anexplorer.io - Follow the connection prompt
- A file browser interface loads showing your phone's storage
What You See in the Browser
The Connect web interface typically shows:
- Directory listing: Folders and files from your phone's storage
- Navigation: Click folders to enter them, use breadcrumbs or back button to go up
- File operations: Download buttons for each file, upload button for adding files
- File information: Name, size, and modification date of each item
Downloading Files from Phone to Computer
- Navigate to the file or folder in the browser interface
- Click the file name or the download button/icon
- Your browser downloads the file to your computer's Downloads folder
- For multiple files: download them individually, or if the interface supports it, select multiple and download as a batch
Tips for Large Downloads
- Keep your phone's screen on and AnExplorer in the foreground
- Stay on the same network throughout the transfer
- For very large files (2+ GB), ensure stable WiFi — interruptions require restarting the download
- Close other bandwidth-heavy applications during transfer
Uploading Files from Computer to Phone
- In the Connect web interface, navigate to the destination folder on your phone
- Click the Upload button (usually a cloud-with-arrow icon or a dedicated upload area)
- Select files from your computer using the file picker dialog
- Wait for the upload to complete — a progress indicator shows transfer status
- The uploaded files appear in the directory listing immediately
Upload Tips
- You can upload multiple files at once (select several in the file picker)
- Some interfaces support drag-and-drop directly into the browser window
- Ensure the destination folder has write permission
- Very large uploads may take several minutes on typical home WiFi
Transfer Speeds
Connect transfer speed depends entirely on your WiFi network:
| WiFi Standard | Theoretical Max | Realistic Transfer Speed |
|---|---|---|
| WiFi 4 (802.11n) | 150-300 Mbps | 5-15 MB/s |
| WiFi 5 (802.11ac) | 433-866 Mbps | 20-50 MB/s |
| WiFi 6 (802.11ax) | 600-1200 Mbps | 40-80 MB/s |
Factors that reduce speed:
- Distance from router
- WiFi congestion (many devices on the same network)
- Phone or router using 2.4 GHz instead of 5 GHz
- Other active downloads/streams consuming bandwidth
- Router quality and configuration
For reference: a 1 GB video transfers in about 20-50 seconds on WiFi 5, or 1-3 minutes on WiFi 4.
Security Considerations
Connect uses HTTP (not HTTPS), which means:
What is safe:
- Using on your home WiFi network (trusted environment)
- Transferring non-sensitive files (photos, videos, music, documents)
- Short sessions where you start the server, transfer, and stop it immediately
What to be cautious about:
- Public WiFi (coffee shops, airports): Anyone on the same network could potentially access the URL. Only use Connect on networks you trust.
- Shared office networks: Others on the network could access your files if they discover the URL
- Sensitive files: Financial documents, passwords, private photos — consider using a cable transfer for these on untrusted networks
Best practices:
- Stop the server immediately after you finish transferring
- Only use Connect on your own home/trusted WiFi
- Check that no one else has the URL (it is not publicly discoverable but accessible if known)
- The server only runs while AnExplorer is active — it stops automatically when you close the app
Advanced Use Cases
Access from a Smart TV
- Start Connect on your phone
- Open the web browser on your smart TV (Samsung Tizen, LG webOS, Android TV)
- Enter the URL using the TV remote
- Browse to your media folder
- Click a video to play it directly in the TV's browser
- Navigate between files using your TV remote or LG Magic Remote pointer
This is excellent for movie nights — browse your phone's video collection on the big screen without needing any streaming device or Chromecast.
Access from Gaming Consoles (Xbox & Steam Deck)
- Xbox Series X/S & Xbox One: Open the Microsoft Edge browser on your Xbox console, navigate to
https://web.anexplorer.io, and connect to your phone or PC over local Wi-Fi. Stream 4K video files or lossless music directly through your TV sound system using your wireless controller. - Steam Deck: Switch to Desktop Mode, open your browser, and navigate to

- Each device sees the same file system and can navigate independently
Quick File Sharing in Meetings
Need to share a file with a colleague's laptop during a meeting?
- Both connect to the same meeting room WiFi
- Start Connect on your phone
- Share the URL with your colleague
- They download the file directly — no email, no cloud upload, no cable needed
Keeping the Server Running
Android's battery management may kill AnExplorer's server during long transfers. To prevent this:
- Disable battery optimization: Settings → Apps → AnExplorer → Battery → Unrestricted
- Keep screen on: Enable "Stay awake while charging" in developer options, or use a keep-awake app
- Lock AnExplorer in recents: On some Android versions, lock the app in the recent apps screen to prevent it from being killed
- Notification: AnExplorer typically shows a persistent notification while the server runs — this helps keep the service active
Troubleshooting
Browser shows "This site can't be reached" or "Connection refused"
- Verify both devices are on the same WiFi network (same SSID)
- Check that AnExplorer's server shows "Running" status
- Re-check the IP address and port (they may change if your phone reconnects to WiFi)
- Disable VPN on both your phone and computer (VPNs route traffic away from local network)
- Try a different browser
- Check if your router has "AP isolation" or "client isolation" enabled — disable it
Transfer speed is very slow
- Switch both devices to 5 GHz WiFi if available
- Move closer to the router
- Close other bandwidth-heavy applications
- Restart the router if many devices are connected
- Check if your phone is throttling network speed due to battery saver mode
Server stops unexpectedly
- AnExplorer was killed by Android's battery optimization — disable it for AnExplorer
- Screen turned off and the OS suspended the app — keep screen on during transfers
- WiFi disconnected briefly — check signal stability
- Restart Connect if it stops
Cannot upload files / "permission denied" when uploading
- Check that AnExplorer has write permission to the destination folder
- Some system folders are read-only
- Grant All Files Access permission if not already done
- Try uploading to the Downloads folder (always writable) and move files afterward
URL changes every time I start the server
Your phone may have a dynamic IP address assigned by the router. Solutions:
- Note the new URL each time you start the server
- Configure a static IP for your phone in router settings (DHCP reservation)
- Use the phone's hostname if your network supports mDNS (e.g.,
https://web.anexplorer.io)
