Can I transfer files from Mac to Android (not just Android to Mac)?

Yes. Connect has an Upload button in the browser interface — select files from your Mac's file picker and they transfer to the current Android folder. SMB also supports bidirectional transfer when mounted in Finder.

Does this work with macOS Sonoma and Sequoia?

Yes. Connect, FTP, and SMB all work on current macOS versions. Safari on modern macOS works with Connect out of the box. SMB uses version 2+ which is the macOS default.

Method 1: Connect in Safari or Chrome

Connect is AnExplorer's built-in local HTTP server. It starts on your Android and any browser on the same Wi-Fi network can open it.

On your Android:

Open AnExplorer → menu (≡) → Connect
Tap Start
Note the address shown: https://web.anexplorer.io

On your Mac:

Open Safari or Chrome
Type the Connect address in the address bar
Press Return — your Android's file system loads in the browser

Click any file to download it to your Mac's Downloads folder. Use the Upload button to send files from Mac to Android.

If Safari shows "Cannot connect", try Chrome — Safari's Content Blockers can interfere. Or check Safari → Settings → Advanced → Enable JavaScript on all websites.

Method 2: Connect to Mac's Shared Folders via SMB (Client)

You can also enable File Sharing on macOS and connect to your Mac from AnExplorer on Android:

On your Mac:

Open System Settings → General → Sharing
Toggle on File Sharing → click the (i) info icon
Add a Shared Folder and ensure your macOS account has Read/Write permissions
Click Options... → check Share files and folders using SMB → select your user account

On your device in AnExplorer:

Tap the Network card on the Home screen → tap + → select SMB
Enter your Mac's local IP address or hostname, and your macOS username and password
Tap Connect
Your Mac's shared folders appear directly in AnExplorer — browse, stream, or copy files bidirectionally

Transferring Photos and Videos from Android to Mac

Your Android camera photos live in /DCIM/Camera. Via Connect or FTP, they are standard JPEG and MP4 files — fully compatible with macOS Photos import, Lightroom, Final Cut Pro, or any other Mac app.

Troubleshooting

Safari "Cannot connect to server":

Both Mac and Android must be on the same Wi-Fi network (same SSID)
Check AnExplorer shows the server as running
Try Chrome — no content blocker interference
Check macOS Firewall: System Settings → Network → Firewall

Connect cannot reach phone:

Ensure both Mac and Android are connected to the same Wi-Fi network (same subnet).
Verify Connect shows active status in AnExplorer.
If Safari has strict content blocking enabled, try Chrome or navigate to the direct IP.

SMB connection to Mac fails:

Verify File Sharing is toggled ON under System Settings → Sharing.
Ensure your macOS username and password are entered correctly.

IP address changes after Wi-Fi reconnect: Set a DHCP reservation for your Android phone's MAC address in your router settings. This gives the phone the same IP every time it connects.
